(Washington, DC)–The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will roll out its inaugural Winter Wonder Bus – a special DC Circulator bus wrapped and decorated with a festive winter theme – on Monday, December 11.
The bus captures the spirit of the holiday season and is a reminder to residents and visitors that DC Circulator is an affordable option for shopping and traveling around our nation’s capital with ease. Rides are always just $1 per trip. From December 11 to January 5, riders can find the Winter Wonder Bus on its pre-determined route schedule, detailed below.
o December 11 – 14: Georgetown – Union Station
o December 15 – 18: Woodley Park – Adams Morgan – McPherson Square Metro
o December 19 – 22: Potomac Ave Metro – Skyland via Barracks Row
o December 23 – 27: Dupont Circle – Georgetown – Rosslyn
o December 28 – January 1: National Mall
Families will also be able to enjoy the Winter Wonder Bus at three public events.
On Thursday, December 14, from 5 pm to 8 pm during the Georgetown Glow All Night event, the bus will operate a special loop between Circulator stops at 35th Street NW and Wisconsin Avenue NW, and Washington Circle and Foggy Bottom.
On Saturday, December 16, from 1 pm to 3 pm, the Winter Wonder Bus will appear in front of the DC USA entrance at 3100 14th Street NW in Columbia Heights. During this time DDOT will provide free holiday family photos aboard the bus.
On Thursday, December 21, from 3 pm to 8 pm, during the EventsDC annual Cozy Christmas Event at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center at 2730 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE in Congress Heights, there will be a free family photo shoot.
Decorated with snowflakes, lights, tinsel and more, the 40-foot Winter Wonder Bus is one of the newest vehicles in the DC Circulator fleet. In August, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the arrival of 26 new DC Circulator buses. These vehicles are outfitted with added amenities, including more powerful air conditioning, improved real-time bus arrival accuracy, dual-screen digital displays that provide real-time information, and USB charging ports. All new buses have technology to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and were manufactured to take advantage of future technology deployments, including onboard Wi-Fi and rear-door boarding.
Riders are encouraged to find the Winter Wonder Bus and post photos and videos of the interior and exterior using #WinterWonderBus on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Each week a randomly selected submission will win a $25 American Express gift card. Winners will be announced on DC Circulator social media channels each Wednesday during the contest.
