Fares

  • Regular – $1.00
  • Senior/Disabled – 50¢
  • DC Students (elementary through high school) – free with DC Student Travel Card. Only during weekdays, 5:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Children Under 5 – free with paying adult rider

Transfers

  • With SmarTrip Card - The Circulator uses a paperless transfer system – if you pay your fare with a SmarTrip card, you'll automatically receive the following discounted fares when transferring:
    • from Circulator (within 2 hours) – free
    • from Metrobus (within 2 hours) – free
    • from Metrorail – 50¢
    • from Metrorail (Senior/Disabled) – free
    • from ART – free
    • WithoutSmarTrip Card - Riders paying with cash cannot receive a transfer.  

    Payment Options

    • Cash – Circulator accepts coins and dollar bills. Exact change is required when boarding a bus with cash. Simply place your fare in the farebox located near the driver.
    • SmarTrip Card – This is a permanent, rechargeable farecard you can use to pay fares and transfers on Circulator, Metrobus, Metrorail and more. To board a bus with a SmarTrip card, simply tap your card on the SmarTrip logo on the farebox when you enter the front door.
    • Passes – Ride all you want by purchasing unlimited-trip passes before you board. One-Day ($3), 3-Day ($7), Weekly ($11) and Monthly ($40) passes are available for purchase through CommuterDirect.com (see below).

    Where to Purchase

    • SmarTrip Cards – You may buy or add value to your SmarTrip Card at CommuterDirect.com and in person at Metro Center and at participating CVS/pharmacy, Safeway, Giant and other locations.     • Passes – Discounts are available to bulk orders of over 100.
    • You may purchase passes online at CommuterDirect.com
